The Virginia Association of Astronomical Societies (VAAS) meets each year as a forum for cooperation and collaboration between the clubs of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Through annual meetings, attendees come away with new friendships, fresh ideas, and knowledge of what other societies are doing around the state and beyond. This year's conference is being hosted by The Back Bay Amateur Astronomers in the Science Building (J) at TCC Virginia Beach. We have a great line up of speakers and activities scheduled including talks on various astronomy subjects Also included in the conference, will be impressive planetarium shows, solar viewing at lunchtime, a swap table, and we'll close it out with a cookout and nighttime viewing at Cornland Park in Chesapeake.

The 42nd annual VAAS conference will be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia at the Tidewater Community College campus. At the conclusion of the conference there will be viewing available at Cornland Park in Chesapeake, VA.

We are proud to host the Virginia Association of Astronomical Societies Conference this year and grateful for the generosity of Tidewater Community College and the City of Chesapeake for allowing us to use their facilities. Use the navigation bar at the top of the page to explore our website and find out more details about VAAS 2017.

The Back Bay Amateur Astronomers is a non-profit organization dedicated to "Bringing Astronomy to the People of Hampton Roads". Founded on December 14, 1978, we are a group of amateur astronomers drawn together by a common interest in observational astronomy. We do many outreach events throughout the year by coordinating with officials from city parks and local schools to generate and maintain the public's interest in astronomy. To see all public events that are we are involved in please view our calendar.

The BBAA is an active member society of the Astronomical League and a part of the Night Sky Network. We are also active on social media. Please visit our social media pages on Yahoo Groups, Facebook, and Twitter to stay up to date with our club's latest activities.
